Producer Gebroeders Horrix
Made in the Netherlands
Period 1860s- 1870s
Impressively richly carved, very unique & comfortable solid walnut armchair chair. It’s upholstered with the original cream velvet fabric. The woodwork is in very good to excellent condition.
A perfect chair to sit in front of a fireplace with a good book.
Strong and stable as the day it was made, this chair by the Horrix Brothers is a typical example of the Black Forest style, decorated with leaves, branches and acorns. The hand-carved shape of the armrests and legs will make you want to look at this antique time and again.
A similar reading chair with a photograph is mentioned in the book Koninklijk Goedgekeurd Horrix en Mutters, van Eliëns and Scherpenzeel Waanders publishing house, page 35 (see photo).
Gebroeders Horrix existed until 1891, accordingly every piece of furniture was made in the late 19th century at the latest. They are known to have made the throne for the former Dutch King Willem III de Wilhelmina in the mid 19th century.
